Honda CY80 modified by Frenchman Dominique Secco.
A 2/3rd scale replica of the Ducati 450 Desmo. The rightside of the CY engine is even adorned with a fake beveldrive.. Funky little bike as can be seen in the youtube clip... Pictures by D. Secco.

Honda ATC's... factory widow makers ?!
But not thrilling enough for some.. hence a guy decided to swap the stock 90cc engine for a CB160 twin back in the 70's.
A blast from the past as the seller, 'Bill's Motorcycles plus' from Salem (Oregon) states..
According to their ebay advertisement the CB engine was treated to a bigbore as well as some headwork.
Included in the sale is a removable wheelybar to prevent road rash on your back and tire wear in front.

Cut the useless seatbrackets from the frame.
"Oldified" the el cheapo China shocks by scuffing the chrome and added S90 coil covers and upper "eyes". Made some spacers for the C50 footbars to clear the C110 clutchcover.
Also lost parts on the workbench that should not be lost. Hurray..

Cool Cub miniature from Warsaw, Poland.
Apparently the AFS Cub triggered Marks enthusiasm to built a downscaled version using a Fujimi 1/12th scale C100 SuperCub model.. When you have a look at his build thread you will appreciate the work that was involved to modify basically all parts including making one-off parts..

For those that wondered...
I asked a friend to act as an unbiased judge for the unfamous photo competion which Seroj happily agreed on. Seroj de Graaf is a designer and entrepreneur working from his studio based in Amsterdam that is known as Chocolate and foam. He is co-owner and co-founder (with Bo Reudler) of the Asylum Collection.
Besides that he is also the Dutch distributor, Aesthetic Peddler, for Schindelhauer bicycles.
Seroj's current ride is an old Honda CB motorcycle. In the past he used to ride a chopped SS50, a hardcore Chaly and a custom C70 Passport... The right person for the job !

Dave from Bellingham,Washington, spend the last 9 months in labour.. chopping his stocker CT90 that he received as a non-running gift from a friend. He was inspired during the build-up by the Cubs from the Cone custom shop as well as the ECC (Extend Cub Club), both from Japan.
The frame was stretched, raked and modified to fit a frame brace; after that Dave smoothed all the welds. The rolling frame was powdercoated with grey metalflake powder which looks great!
Dave machined the footpegs from brass, the same material was used for the centerpart of the frame brace. Kinda like a bi-tone watch, a mix of polished aluminum and brass.The '60s style sissybar was handcrafted from stainless steel..
Wheels are custom 72 spoked items with modified hubs. The soloseat was upholstered locally.
Power comes from a Pitster Pro 140cc engine..

CRT Veenendaal race 20/8

The 17th edition of the classic races organised by the CRT (Classic Racing Team) at Veenendaal.
These demo races are held on a street circuit in an industrial area.
Unlike the HMV, which is a another club that also promotes classic races, the CRT guys are not allergic to Japanese motorcycles..

An interesting '68 Moto Morini Corsarino ZZ50 by Mr. van Eck. The (formerly) pushrod engine has been extensively modified and was made into an OHC engine using a modified SS50 cylinderhead and a custom made cylinder.

The Groenendijk racing team.. their stable includes the almost famous RSC90 ;)

I noticed this low slung stepthrough because of a post by Chris aka SakeRacers...
An amazing custom, boardtracker, dragger.. whatever you want to call it.. Handbuilt in a small garage by AFS Custom bikes from Taiwan. This 'Cub' left the factory as a stocker SYM 90, a domestic stepthrough similar to the Honda Cubs.
Girder fork with low handlebars, hardtailed frame with welded on ducktail. Gastank hidden underneath the seat with brass fillercap on top of ducktail fender. Steel framecover, intricate paintjob, slick tyres.. Every part of the SYM seems to have been modified. The welding looks the part, as can be seen in the mock-up pictures on the AFS blog..

Honda SS50 "factory" special paint

There is a interesting story concerning a large amount of Dutch SS50's forgotten and taking up space in storage being unsold (still) in 1981 since nobody seemed to be interested in buying them.
The Dutch Honda headquarters decided to mimic a 'new' SS50 model by having the gastanks repainted with a "custom" paintjob to make them more desirable to the eye and hopefully attract buyers. Those tanks are known as "Jubilee" gastanks and were painted by GL Paints from Oud-Beijerland, a Dutch special paint shop.
The 4 versions of the Jubilee special paint gastanks that were offered to the public can be seen in the sales ad below the green "racing colour" gastank.

A design study that was only made in low numbers and never made it into the sales brochures was the US flag & eagle design that you see pictured below.
According to some there was also a flamed gastank design (black with red flames I believe).There also seems to be some variation in the 4 Jubilee versions using the same designs albeit with different colours.

Funky C90 custom by Ron from the UK..
Refreshing ! Since most UK Cubs seem to be "customized" with a Rickman windshield or a pizza delivery box ;)
The C90 Economy lost most of its plastic junk whilst the frame was braced, cleaned and molded. In front there's a telescopic Honda H100 fork with Chaly handlebars and a Bates headlight. A repro Vincent taillight takes care of the rear. Small bullet indicators replace the rather large plastic ones usually found on late model stephroughs.. The front mudguard was made from an old cooking pot, on top sits a 50pence "gold" eagle from a bootsale for good luck.. Wheels are from a Honda H100 and were powdercoated red.. Note the brass jockey shifter..

Custom ATC's

There used to be a large aftermarket scene in the US with a variety of custom frames, forks, wheels and hot engine parts to choose from to build your own screamer ATC.
At the 3WheelerWorld forum there are still guys that build custom ATC's using rare and vintage aftermarket parts from the '70s and '80s.

Two examples built by Mike aka shortline10..

'78 ATC90/180
The engine capacity was doubled to 180cc using a 61mm H&S stroker crankshaft and 61mm H&S starburst cylinder.. The stock semi-auto clutch was swapped for a SL90 clutch.. Also note the BAPP breather dipstick, BAPP inlet manifold and finned recoil cover.
The monster engine is bolted into a Dickson frame with monoshock swingarm. The aluminium wheels are PCCC Turbo wheels.

'79 ATC110/151
151cc with a 61.5mm stroker crankshaft and 56mm bore. Again SL90 clutch. Rocky manifold with 24mm Mikuni carb. Bandito chromed frame and chromed aftermarket fork. Mitchel wheels with spacers.

Same ATC albeit with a different gastank .. :

DOHC 4V SS50

Read about this on the Dutch 4-stroke forum..
Apparently a guy from Germany (a werkzeugmachermeister) with two right hands, a big block of alloy and a suitable workshop built a DOHC 4-valve cylinderhead for his SS50M in the '70s. The cams are belt driven but the pulleys are missing. It seems the oil lines on the rightside of the head were connected to the cylinder as per S65.
This could be yours.. The seller is asking 500 euro for this handmade one-of-a-kind piece of art..

Sometimes there is great stuff to be found on the 'bay..
A tracker '63 C110 that, according to the seller, was raced in Southern Cali and previously owned by Kawasaki factory racer Hurley Wilvert.
The bike was obviously stripped of unnecessary parts to loose weight. Inside the hop-up engine a Honda CY110 racing camshaft and high comp piston take care of business.. The carb and drilled manifold seem to origin from a C200 or C201. The high shoulder rims are vintage alloy DID's with Pirelli dirttrack tyres whilst the seat is said to be a factory CY110 item too. The jiffystand, bolted to the swingarm, is a nice period accessory..

Chris from Chico (California, US) has an interesting stable of motorcycles including a bunch of oddball Honda's as can be seen on his blog. Some of these have been featured on the Chalopy blog before.

'64 Trail 55 rat

140cc engine, lowered on shorter leading link front springs and modified Yamaha GT80 rear shocks..

1964 Honda C100 "Trials" competition bike
C100 Frame and stock 49cc pushrod engine with 20mm Keihin carb.
CL90 front telescopic forks, Betor Trials shocks with 40# springs.
2.75x18 Trials tires on 18" CL90 wheels. Giant 72-tooth rear
sprocket.

1965 Honda C110
49cc pushrod engine, C110 aluminum head. ported intake and exhaust, lightened valves, lightened rocker arms, stiffer valve springs, 12:1 compression (milled head and cylinder barrel) and currently running a 20mm Keihin carb
(24mm Mikuni gives more top end, but has been more
difficult to get running at lower speeds.)

Adam's '70 CT70HK0.. Adam is from Chicago (Illinois, US).

Open lolipopped exhaust, copper tip, wooden seat, slammed with z50 fork tubes and short rear shocks,cheap-o white walls, cheap-o chopper tail light, chrome rims...
He isn't afraight to use the CT as can be seen on the HellsBananas blog..

Thijs' SS50... Ducati Elite 125 brakedrum in front and a stock Honda drum in rear. Both spoked into alloy Weimann rims. Power comes from a 12V C90 engine with SS50 4-speed gearbox and manual clutch. Not visible is the low-rise CL70K1 exhaust..

Boo's '67 CM90 survivor. Recycled parts from various Cub models grace the CM90 topped with a handbrushed paintjob. Engines come and go, the one in the pic has a 125cc displacement with a homemade exhaust featuring a Suzuki RG250 silencer. Homemade luggage rack and an old PVC jacket covers the chopped seat. A C100 legshield keep your knees dry..

'71 S&K CT90 Suitcase cycle

I read about this CT90 on the Honda CT90/110 Trail forum. This Trail 90 belonged to Craig (he sold it recently) from Joshua Tree, California who provided some pictures of the special suitcase equipment. The Trail 90 was modified by S&K. They cut the main frame pipe and fitted special connectors to be able to separate the CT in two pieces that fit in a (rather large) suitcase. With the addition of various quickchange hardware it is possible to disassemble the bike and make it small enough to sqeeze it into the back of an airplane (or boat) without much effort. There is no need to drag a toolbox along..

Main frame disconnect and quickconnect throttle cable..

Quickchange bolt to remove the luggagerack. Also note the abbreviated fender for easy rearwheel removal.

Quickchange nut on rearaxle to easily remove the rearwheel. Since the CT's have a separate sprocket carrier the chain and rearsprocket can stay in place.

"Chopped" engine protector. The upper part is now fastened on top of the cylinderhead cover instead of the framepipe.

According to Greg whom reacted on an earlier post concerning S&K Air Sea cycles about 2000 suitcase bikes were made. And not just Honda stepthroughs.. as can seen in the pictures below, a Suitcase Cycle CL100 (via Aztecscooters).

Dutch RSC90

Pay Ronald's blog a visit.. the man races the one and only RSC90 replica you'll likely ever see in Europe.
His racer is based on the Honda RSC90 which was basically a S90 with the addition of factory racing parts that were available over the counter in the sixties. Ronald's bike features hard to get vintage Honda equipment as well as homemade parts. The bike is a work in progress..
Ronald also campaigns a CB50 racer which is the only 4-stroke in the classic 50cc racing class..
He is looking for an original RSC gastank or someone that can supply a copy..
